But here’s the chilly question: how do we keep our snacks fresh and beers cold without running out of power? That’s where the handy 12V fridges come in. 
You might have noticed that running a fridge non-stop in a campervan isn’t exactly battery-friendly. If we hook it up to the leisure battery without moving, it’s not going to last very long. Ever had to deal with a drained battery in the middle of nowhere? Yeah, not fun!
But here’s a cool trick: when we’re on the road, our 12V fridge can run off the leisure battery. 
Why? Because the starter battery is giving it a nice little charge. It’s like giving your fridge a power snack while you drive to the next spot! You should make sure your fridge is wired so it charges whilst your on the move. Our garage in Sheffield can check this over for you if you are not sure.
Now, when we decide to park for a while we’ve got a few options. If your campsite has an electric hook-up, then all good. Plug in and get a drink.
But, what about off grid spots? If your fridge can run on gas then this is the easiest option and any one doing a lot of off grid camping should alway go for a three way fridge. But, if gas isn’t an option, a solid backup plan is having a few leisure batteries and a killer solar panel setup to catch some sun…and keep those evening drinks ice-cold.

Most campervan fridges run on one of following power sources. Either 12 volt from the onboard batteries. 240 volt from the electric hook up or via an inverter. Or lastly from a gas bottle. If you have a three way fridge, then you can use any of the three. 2 way fridges are usually just 12 volt and 240 volt, although just to confuse things they can also be known as three way fridges as they can sometimes run on three different voltages, 12v, 24v and 240v.
